cant open/create EPS files in Corel Draw 9

I have been making eps fine for years, but now when I come to make a new EPS file I cant open it to check using the usual 'ps.prn. eps.' filter, and I cant see it in the folder at all. The only way to open is by importing, and the file does not look correct. ie all one image not separate curves.
operating on windows XP platform.

Well, you don't "open" EPS files - you always import them using one of two filters depending on what you want to do. If you're only wanting to PLACE the file, you import with the EPS filter. If you're wanting to EDIT the file, you import with the PS INTERPRETED filter.

I create files in Corel Draw 12, export the as an eps, then I open the eps in Corel 12 or Illustrator 8 and have no problems at all. I always convert the type to curves during the eport process so that I will not have any font issues with the bureau that I am sending it to for films.
Plus I don't have to worry about someone editing my file.

I always open these files this way to check them. I did originally import them as you said to check files before sending to printers, but was told this doesnt give an accurate image, and should use the open command using the app. filter. The problem now is that I cant see the file on my pc at all. I have tried uninstalling and starting again but it hasnt helped. The other thing which is very strange -all files I made last year are ok and i can open them OK. Someone else suggested that it may be to do with windows XP updated security, which I will check tommorrow. If you have any other suggestions please advise.

Nope, you should never "open" an EPS... and really the only way to get an accurate image would be to *place* it (by way of importing it via the *placeable import filter) in an app and print it to a postscript printer.

javabear is right, the open function is for cdr files. Import using a filter is for other file types. EPS filter will only show the preview but will print correctly to a Postscript printer/device, to any other printer you will only get the low resolution preview/grey box or nothing at all. PS Interpreted filter normally will give you the curves etc for editing, this is not a good test as the file has been (as the filter suggests) been interpreted and thing such as fades may not be true. Obviously this is not helping thephinx but should clarify things hopefully for others.
Thephinx: if you have full Acrobat, distill your eps, in Acrobat do a save as EPS in Acrobat with the resultant pdf and import that into Draw, or print your eps preview from Draw to a postscript printer and see it it prints ok then set any postscript printer to file, print to that with a ps extension and import that into Draw with interpreted filter. No guarantees but things to try.

Thanks for all the advice, but have now sorted the original problem, by resetting corel draw defaults and everything is fine now.
