I have been unable to resolve a major problem with IE.

This problem is well documented in thread608-132319 but
has not resolved my problem.

I simply can't open a new window using the browser.
Attempting to do so with a right click, menu item or
if a web page attempts to do so via script simply closes
all instances of the browser.

Tried to date:
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll <-- this one cannot work acording to
some and did not work on my system.
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

Reverting to an new version of COMCTL32.DLL did not work.
I had someone send me the version that corrected their problem.

Running mcrepair.EXE did not work.

Microsofts solution under Q274696 is for Win2000
but I tried anyway without success.

That's my story. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have finally upgraded from WinNT 4.0 to WIN2000. This appears to have resolved the problem completely. I can now get rid of Netscape from my system.

I am very pleased with this forum and only wish Microsoft could be a little more responsive to the needs of their users.

Many thanks to all who have assisted.

I hate sending another "me too" message, but I also had the same problem. Stupid IE 6 on Windows 2000 would not display any popup windows, it would be just a blank page. Now ordinarily, this would be a good thing... ie, no spam!
But it stinks when I actually want to read a pop-up, or need
to login on that popup. =)

At any rate, "PgTips" suggestion worked for me as well.

I have bookmarked this page, since you know darn well the
problem will come back sometime in the future!

Thanks again pgtips.

We are using Windows NT4 SP6 with the famous problem with IE5.5/IE6. After testing all the solutions proposed for XP, W98 and others, After big sweating for a week, WE FINALLY GOT THE SOLUTION by replacing the OLEAUT32.DLL with a previous version (2.40.4277). This works fine fine.

Thanks thanks a lot to everybody for the help. Good luck to all.
