Let me first preface this post by saying phone systems isn't exactly my specialty... I'm usually just IT support for computer systems, but I've kinda given myself a crash course in Nortel phone systems.

Previously we had M7324 handsets but finally upgraded to T7316E units. I'm having an issue with moving the lines though. We have 7 lines and I've tried using Feature *81 to move the lines, but the phone won't let me choose the top three buttons on the handset. I've read elsewhere that you need to have the T7316 "enhanced" units (hence the E on the end) to be able to assign the lines to the top three buttons, but it still is telling me it's an invalid location.

Am I missing something?

You need release 6.1 or later of the software.

The T7316E set is not recognized on earlier versions of the software and is treated as a T7316 (not E) set.

Ahh bother... that makes sense. I had a feeling it had something to do with our ancient KSU. The 6.1 firmware comes on a software card that pops into the KSU right?

That's right, at least on the Compact ICS.

On the Modular ICS, you may also need to replace the NVRAM cartridge.

If your current software is pretty old, you may not be able to upgrade directly to release 6.1 (or 7.1, which is the latest release) without loosing the existing programming. To avoid loosing programming, you will need an upgrade tool.

If you tell us the exact version of the software, we will tell you exactly what you need. The version is printed on the label of the software cartridge. You can also find it in programming: Maintenance > System Version.

System version says 30MVJ24 DR5 then on the next line it says RTP.

Thanks.

You have a Modular 8x24 with the DR5 software.

The Modular 8x24 is an old hardware. You would need to replace the KSU.

If you decide to follow that route, you will need the newer KSU, which is a Modular ICS. If you have Station Modules or Trunk Modules attached to the existing KSU, you can use them with the new KSU, but you will need to replace the expansion cartridge(s) as well. Also, the existing trunk cartridges should be compatible with the new hardware.

You can forget what I said about retaining programming. With such an upgrade, you'll have to reprogram from scratch.

I figured the system was probably way too old. Thanks for your help.
