I'm fairly clueless about networks, any help will be appreciated.

I am using WinME on my home pc, employer has had me install Cisco VPN on the theory that I can now access the network. As yet this does not seem to work. What I have done:

1) I connect to ISP via dial-up, open and connect the VPN
2) if I telnet in, system admin has verified that I appear to have an internal address
3) I have tried every thing I have found in various troubleshooting tips: Made sure to primary network login be Client for MS, added DNS settings to TCP/IP for dial up adaptor based on addresses given me by network admin
4) looked at other threads here and so called ISP and had them give me a static IP address
5) made sure logging into my pc with the same name/password that should be needed for employers network.
6)made sure file and printer sharing was enabled on my pc
7) tried having my workgroup = to the domain name at work, tried making it different
8) changed my pc name to be the same as my login id

I can ping the address of the server that has the drive I'm trying to connect to. When I try to map the network drive, I get prompted for a password, I enter my password and am told that it isn't recognized adn I might not have access to the specified share.

I have verified (more than once) with network admin that I have the right login id and password.

Please, does anyone have any more suggestions for me or that I can give to my network admin who is also out of ideas.

Thanks,

netconfused,

I think I have almost a similar problem, I was prompted for a user id and password. I tried all the user id and password that I know and no luck, in the end I tried the user id and password of the local server where the folder are and it works. I can see the shared files on that server.

Thought this might help.

Thanks, the password I'm entering is supposed to be the password for the server.

I did find a troubleshooting tip on another site that suggested adding to the registry key to Enable Plain Text PAssword. I added that thinking perhaps passwrod was getting encrypted but still no luck.

If anyone has used the Cisco 5000 client, and turned the logging to the debugging level, can you tell me what actions prompted a msg in the logging screen? After I connect the VPN no other actions show up in this screen and that seemed odd.
