Under SQL 6.5,
the SA + password appears to be locked out..

Tried logging in via Enterpriser Manager and
says Unable to Connect to SQL Server - Login Failed
and via a VB app that always works Msg 4002...Login Failed
etc ...

Checking to see if any other logins have SA rights
but not sure...

What about rebooting the server in a particular mode ..

Thanks
John

Hmmm, can you log in as another user? Have you checked the sql server properties to make sure the server authentication is accepting NT and sql server logins? I've only used SQL7 but I "lost" my sa login once when I upgraded to SP3, because it reset the authentication to NT only.

I can log in as another user ....however I can't
see the configuration properties in Enterprise Manager

Thanks
John

When you're in Enterprise Manager you can't right click on the server and choose properties? Wierd, perhaps someone changed the sa password? Have you tried stop/start the SQL service or rebooting (if it is possible in your case)?

Do you have books online? Look into stores procedures, SP_helpuser, sp_helplogins, sp_change_users_login . Use at your own risk, I used change_user once when the sysdba login disapeared for a certain database (although it still "existed", it wouldn't show up or allow one to log into the database with it) Sorry I've never used 6.5 (only 7.0) so none of this may help...

Found out what happened ....

Apparently the sa password was changed sometime
yesterday by mistake ....and i was able to login
using this new password ...grrrrrrrrr....
I just changed the pw back to what its supposed to be ....

This was a scare ....

Thanks
John
