Cant log into domain, get this error

The trust relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed.

Its an newer Acer 5517-5086 laptop w/ W7 and it could log in as long as 4 months ago. DC is Server 08. Only thing that had changed was I removed his user from AD and left the computer. I tried to readd the user, then remove the computer and readd the user and then the computer all to no avail.

Curious if there is an easy quick fix, if not Im just going to reformat.

delete the PC from AD; join the PC to work group and restart then re-add PC

Tried that, I know my previous wording wasnt very accurate. When I do it that way I do get a different erro:

"The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship."

OK here is another suggestion; un-join PC from domain > delete from AD > restart PC > Rename PC to another name > Restart PC and join to domain.

Is that possible for you to do?

It was a former IT employees laptop, before my time, he set up the Admin PW. I got around it and was going to head down that path but the eRecovery Part. popped up after a restart and Im just going to restore it to eliminate all the unneeded stuff that was on the hard drive.

I was going to say the machine password will have expired, however I read this..

If its an old employees laptop and you just need to retrieve some files (and assuming it isn't encrypted) then I'd either boot with a PE disk and copy them off and wipe it or reinstall Windows and then copy them off and then wipe it.
