For some reason I cannot keep my machine from going into sleep mode. I have all the power management tools disabled but to no avail. I have also tried uninstalling advanced power management but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

thanks
kurt

Can you get into your BIOS setup screens? Most modern BIOSs contain a power setup utility. If you've uninstalled APM, that's the only thing I can think of that could be doing it. Rick Sprague

I had that thought also but being as I have a Compaq there is only like 3 things you can even do in the bios. Unfortunately, that was not one of them.

Which Compaq model do you have and was Windows Me presintalled or did you do a clean install?

I have the 5600i Presario. It came with Win (not sure if ME or not) but I did a clean install rather than use their recovery cd. I used the utility program that came with my new hd (Maxtor) to format and partition - which I believe achieves the same effect as a fdisk.

Is there another way to keep the power management uninstalled? I uninstall it in the Device manager but it always gets put back on on next reboot.

That was addressed above your posting. Come to find out I had some compaq monitor file that was causing the problem.

I also had this problem. I have a P4 1.3 from Gateway. Their technical support was unable to help and even though I have long since abandoned ME, I am curious as to why it was happening.

I had every power management tool disabled (including those in BIOS)! More often than not, the system would go into stanby while I was surfing the web.

Not sure if this is the same as Kurt's prob - my system was unable to wake up! Ctrl-Alt-Del didn't even do it. Had to power off and restart...

I recently had a problem with ME crashing all the time. I seem to have solved thhis by disabling Power Management, both in BIOS and also by unchecking Power Management in the startup files by using the "Msconfig" utility and selecting "selective startup" - hope this works for you.
