Can someone please help??
I have just got a copy of red hat 7 and am trying to install it on my win 98 machine but I can't even get started. when I boot the machine with the cd it starts fine but as soon as the redhat screen comes up with the mouse and keyboard options the moniter begins to flash on and off. this makes it impossible to read the screen and hence I can't partition my hard drive. I have try to disable all the power management features in the Bios but this makes no difference.
My computer uses on board graphics sharing 8mb of the system memory.
the m/board use a VIA chipset
the graphics use TRIDENT BLADE3D/MVP4

any help would be appreciates

Make a boot floppy, using rawrite (in DOS) with the boot.img file.
Boot to the floppy, then start the install. You'll see different options, one of them being text mode. Once you get to the point of configuring X in the install, you can test different configurations, resolutions, and video cards to get the right one. Cheers,
Jim

don't use the graphical installer , . use the text based (choose text at login prompt) . or better yet grab yourself a copy of suse, slackware or debian

text based is definitely the way to go - some bios's can't deal with the graphical menu at the boot stage apparently (at least that's what the mandrake installer said when I installed it....)

=)

may be the monitor resolution is very poor

when the CD starts say linux text which will guide u thru the installation on a less friendly text format and @ the end of the installation you can configure your monitor settings

thanks for the tip I haven't had time to try it yet but I'll let you know if it is successful ( or I'll probably be back on here looking for more help soon)
