Hi everyone, I'm a long time listener, first time caller. I'm trying to install SMS 2003 SP2 onto my test Server 2003 SP1 box, but it doesn't seem to be picking up that SQL 2005 is installed? Can anyone please help, this seems to have baffled M$ TechNet.

I have written a walk through guide to installing the lot. If you want to start over, you are more than welcome to a copy.

BTW, is your SQL Server a seperate machine to your intended Site Server?

Hope this Helps.

Hi Neil, yes my test server is running SQL 2005 and hopefully soon will be running SMS 2003.

I'm more than happy to start over, so a copy of your guide would be awesome.

Cheers mate,
Johan

Errr.... i just noticed you are using SQL 2005. I have never used 2005, or even isntalled it. But I have heard of issues. Are you using a complete integrated install of SMS SP2, or are you isntalling SMS 2003, then upgrading to SP2? SP2 is the first update that "supports" SQL 2005, however, I wouldn't advice using it, I cant remember the issues, but just know there have been problems cause SP2 was designed when the 2005 BETA (Yukon) was being released, and hasn't been updated for the final 2005 server. I would use SQL 2000 SP3a. SMS 2003 R2 due in two weeks for public release should support, in the real sense that it works properly, with SQL 2005, but untill then, I would just use the SQL 2000.

When you say "it doesn't seem to be picking up that SQL 2005 is installed?", what, where, when, how? Specify the details of that error, and get back to me.

Hope this Helps.

I finally got it working, and all I had to do was start from scratch. I still don't know what went wrong, but now atleast it's working.

Thanks for you help Neil :)

Cheers,
Johan
