I'm trying to install Mcafee Virus Scan 4.5.1 on a Compaq box running windows 2000 server (sp2) but am getting the following error (I've tried rebooting):

Failed to initialise the McPal Library - Unable to open shared registry key

This error occurs part way throught the file copy process. The install terminates advising me to try again later.

The file copy is rolled back so that there is no trace of Mcafee on the machine. The server is running some web transaction agents but other than that nothing too contraversial - any ideas?

Thank You

Andy

If its a server, you should really try NetShield 4.5 SP1 instead of VirusScan 4.51 SP1. VS was not designed to run on a server-type machine.

HTH, AVChap
... take my advice, I don't use it anyway!

Have you gone to McAfee support web site and submited this problem to them? I had firewall install problem and the Tech Web Chat helped solve it.

I'm having the same issues as andrew12 when trying to install Mcafee Virus Scan 4.5 on a clone box running windows 2000 server (sp2) and I am getting the following error (I've tried rebooting):

Failed to initialise the McPal Library - Unable to open shared registry key.

The install rolls back and no trace of any McAfee files.
Any sugestions?

I agree with AVChap. Install NetShield 4.5 SP1 on your W2K servers. Do not install VirusScan 4.5.1 SP1 on servers. They may share some core files, but VirusScan is not meant to be installed on servers.

To Victor's answer.........
It is NetShield that i am attempting to install with SP1 and that is the message I'm getting ......
Install aborts during the install.

Please run or install it from temporary directory (root:\temp). If you don't have, create a new one first. Copy all setup file to temp and run from there.
You should install Netshields 4.51 (SP1 if avaliable) just for Server only.
Hope it works!

in agreement with jagoan, install from temp folder (we're you installing from CD?) have you tried a custum build of the SW using installation manager?
