Can't Hear on the MLS

I have run into a couple of MLS 18D sets, recently, where transmission over the handset is lost. After replacing handsets and receivers to make sure they were OK, I opened the sets and found that touching the circuit board almost anywhere, restores voice temporarily. I loose it again, of course, when I replace the cover. The connectors for the rec cords appear to be OK. The speakerphone works fine.

Is this a common problem with the older Partner sets and if so, is there a quick fix ?

Look for a cold or cracked solder joint, especially on the transformer near the middle of the board. Brian Cox
