I don't know how to continue with the thread and let everyone see that I have further questions, so I am starting a new one.

Thank you both for your responses. blom0344 you are right I am not talking about using the repository. The reason is that I have changed the universe and I need to test it and change some report before we can put it back in the repository. Therefore, I need a local copy on my machine.

When I look on my machine and at the directory on the network I am pointing BO at to get the universe, the date on all of the files with the universe name in these places show the most updated version. Therefore, I am guessing it must be getting it from the repository somehow.

Is there a setting I am missing?

I have made sure to rename any old copies of the universe so that they could not be picked up by BO or the reports.

Thank you for your help.

Hi - Try this one out.. Open the Other Universes and check the Universe Properties. If you want to change the name of a universe so that you see the new name in the Designer, you should change the Universe Name in Universe Properties as well as Rename the file - Probably you are only renaming the files - checkit.

Srikanth.

Sorry for the confusion. As I said in my other post, I don't have Designer on my machine. I have Designer on another machine that several people on my project are using (we have limited licenses and one of the licenses is on a machine that a few of us share for that purpose).

On the Designer machine, I can see the updated Universe. I can open BO from Designer and see the report with the Universe. However, I don't want to work from that machine. I want to work from my machine.

So I emailed the universe to my machine. Put it on a network drive. Pointed the Tools/Options/File Locations/Universes File Type to the network directory where the universe is located. And when I open up a report it links to the old universe.

I have checked on my local machine. Every .unv file with the same name as my universe has the correct time stamp. The old version of the universe I have renamed so that BO can't find it.

I still cannot get the new universe when I open a file.

Therefore, I don't think changing anything in Designer will work as I am not working from the machine that has Designer on it and the machine that has Designer on it works.

Just to reiterate, I am trying to test the universe so I don't want to load it to a repository until it has been tested and the reports I need to change have been changed.

I appreciate everyone who has tried to help and I want to thank everyone in advance who will be helping me.

Hello tdfreeman,

It's getting a bit confusing (I have a very bad cold, so forgive me for not getting it entirely right)

1. You do work with a complete set-up ,complete with set-up of the diverse domains within a repository.
2. To prevent users from working on a certain universe, you can simply disable that universe for that user or user-group in your supervisor module. (no need for such an elaborate work-around you are attempting.)
If you disable a universe for user X in supervisor , nothing will be possible for X on this universe no matter how or where.
3. If you work with fully set-up security, your attempts will be in vain ANYWAY. Using a test-universe that hasn't been exported to the repository won't be recognized as a valid universe, unless you try it on a machine were BO is set-up as a stand-alone and security is no issue. (for instance, on such a machine you can start BO without logging in)
Just copy/pasting the .unv files is not a good strategy
