Can't get Type to print in true Black

I have ID 2.02 and have tried to design a booklet of photos & names for a church directory. I am finding that when I try to print a mock-up sample on my Epson Stylus Photo 960 which uses 5 color cartridges plus 2 black cartridges, my type is consistently printing as a purplish-brown instead of a true black. If I print using MS Word with the exact same printer settings, it prints a perfect black type. What do I need to do to make ID print my type using the black ink cartridges? I have already set the print setting to "Text as black" in the output settings, the color is Composite RGB. This is not a post script printer. I am running a Mac G-4.

I think that's the problem.... If you have a Composite Greyscale option, use that instead.

The pages that I am printing have color photos as well as text. If I pick a grayscale won't that prevent the photos from printing in color? The mystery of it is that one of the pages I created for the cover prints perfectly while all the others have the off-color type problem. I have switched back and forth endless times comparing settings and cannot discern any difference between the pages. I've invested HOURS on this before I posted my request for help. Thanks for your help.

I would try printing as Composite CMYK.

Also I would find somewhere which has a Postscript printer and print it out from there.

Create a PDF and Print that out.


Lastly I would never compare anything to Microsoft Word. Because Word does things, and produces things which are not reproducable, because the program is so computer dependent.
