Here's an interesting one: I recently installed
a brand new 5.1 sp2a Compaq server (named
SHMAIN). It was merged into an existing mixed
4.10, 5.0 tree. It's supposed to replace a 4.10
server(named MAIN). Both MAIN & SHMAIN have a
sys and a vol1 volume. I copied all of vol1 from
MAIN to SHMAIN and all apps tested fine. This
weekend I added Backup Exec and InnoculateIT and
the new server.exe patch for sp2a. I then copied
all of vol1 to it again. I changed rights &
login scripts to map to SHMAIN instead of MAIN
and changed the Novell clients (3.3/4.8) to
preferred server SHMAIN. Than my troubles
began. When I rebooted the workstations I only
got file scan rights. No matter who I logged in
as (admin too). I can see the files but I can't
access them or Map a drive to any folders?
Strangely, 2 workstations (I only tested a dozen
or so) worked no matter who was logged into
them? I ended up putting login scripts and the
preferred server back to the way it was before I
began and suddenly I could access info on SHMAIN,
but this morning I'm back to only file scanning
on SHMAIN. My NT w/s computer can't access anything
at all. The win 9x and 2000 computers can open
MS-Access files and Adobe PDF files?
When I browse over to SYS on SHMAIN I
can't see the SYSTEM folder. Apparently Admin (&
everyone else) lost their rights. What is going
on?! Can this have something to do with DS Entry IDs? Thanks...

Your problem is users do not have licensed connections to the new server, there is a bug in SP2.

You can do step 2 first and see if it work for you have have done it both ways step 1 and step 2 or just step 2

Step 1

you need to go to the new servers nwserver directory delete 3 files
servcfg.000, servcfg.nbk, and servcfg.tmp, reboot server.

after reboot at the console type *pmlodr

Step 2

type polimgr

type nlslsp this may of been auto loaded aready if so no problem.

Now login to the server and all should be just fine..

Thanks for the info, worked great. Is there a TID for this?

Scratch my last message. I came in this morning and have the same problem. I can't get rights. It seems to occur over night (or some period of time). What gives?
