I cannot get my Soundblaster PCI 128 card to work under linux. First I had a generic sound card from gateway and tried to get it work under Redhat 7.1, Suse 7.1 and Mandrake 8. Could never get it to work. Went out and got a Soundblaster Live! card couldn't get that to work with anything, even my Windows partition! Finally got a Soundblaster PCI 128 card, it works fine with windows but again, won't work with Redhat 7.2 or Suse 7.1. I've searched the web and various support docs for anything but i can't find any solution. The gateway website says I have a Jabil Kadoka Motherboard. Does anyone know about any compatibility issues or anything? I have seriously spent a year trying to get this work. Someone help me so I can format my windows partition and be able to use one operating system!

Ok, it sounds as if you have a problem with a motherboard, but another tech opinion would be helpful. If you couldn't get your Live! card to work in Windows, there's something wrong. I work with Live! and 128's everyday at work, and they are pretty straightforward in the installation. Run the setup.exe and it will put in the driver. I'm hoping you did put in the driver, I don't know you, so I don't know how savvy you are. This will require some troubleshooting, but it sounds like there's something wrong with your hardware. Provide more info on how you how you've already tried to get it to work, and maybe I can help you.

Yeah as far as the Live! card went I tried using the installation from the cd and the current one from the website. Neither worked. Right now I am using the 128. I work for a company as the sys admin but everything here is running W2K. I'm not that familiar with Linux but I've had a dual boot at home for well over a year and use it to code C and hack into other networks to test their security. So I can get around in it. I think that I just have a crappy motherboard but since I can get it to work in windows I should be able to get it to work in Linux. One thing I've learned is never buy a Gateway, seems I have a lot of compatibility issues.

If you can try Mandrake 8.2 it identifies the Soundblaster live and installs it perfectly.

Versions before this kind of installed it but you had to often play with the BIOS's pnp setting. So if your stuck with a different version of linux try booting up with the pnp setting changed. I think I read it on this forum somewhere so try a search.

Mandrake 8.2 installs it ok with BIOS pnp set to On but with the previous version I needed it set to Off to detect it.

Leon.
