Hi,
I'm attempting to get into an MS Access 97 database using MS Access 2000. When I try to start the database, I get the following error message. The originally developer of the database is not to be found.

"You do not have the necessary permissions to use the 'MSysACEs' object. Have you system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you."

any ideas?
thanks,
Peter

Try loading it using the

/convert "target db" switch at the end. Steve Hewitt

Some time ago I coaxed one db by a following way:
1. Create a new empty database in A2000.
2. On the toolbar click FILE
3. Click GET EXTERNAL DATA
4. Click IMPORT
5. Enter the name of the A97 Database
6. Click on tables, etc.
7. OK
Cross your fingers - sometimes it works, sometimes not (especially - if the database is "passworded").
Please, let me know (there are other far more complicated ways to "force" it)...

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure if I now how to do what you suggest, however here's what I did (which didn't seem to work)...
From a dos prompt, from the subdirectory where MSAcess.exe is located, I typed >MSAccess /convert c:\mydocu~1\resident.mdb. Is this what you meant?

Vesmir2: Thank you too. I was able to copy all the tables, forms, reports, etc. to a newly created database, however I get a VB compilation error at the outstart. I can then click ok and halt the program. I can then see all the tables, forms, etc. Also upon running reports I receive a number of macro related errors.

Any thoughts?
thanks again,
Peter
