i recently upgraded to win 2k from 98. i'm trying to get iis up and running. however, after i add iss from components
nothing else happens. i'm used to PWS where you see the icon in the task bar and it appears in the programs list. am i looking the in the wrong place for IIS?

Yes.
You must go into Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Internet Services Manager. That will give you the IIS console.

If you don't see Administrative Tools, right-click on the Taskbar and go to Properties and select to expand/show Administrative Tools.

i right click the taskbar, went to advanced and checked the Display Administrative Tools. Still no Administrative Tools in Programs.

Matt was saying you need thru the menus to Administrative tools and click on Internet Services Manager. You must be logged in as a member of the administrator group. If so and you still don't see it go to Windows Exploer and go to the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\[your_login_id]\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools". There you will see Internet Services Manager.

Also, you will see Services. Open that up and see that IIS Admin Service and World Wide Web Publishing Services are running. IIS is a service. You will not see it in the task manager, only in the services manager.
