Can't get highlighting in Word to go away 1

I have a document passed on to me from somebody else. Several paragraphs are highlighted yellow and the highlighting will not go away. I try using the highlighting none feature and nothing happens. What makes this more interesting is I can highlight something myself in the document, and then remove it easily. It is only the highlighted words that came with the document. Any ideas on what can be causing this?

I am not sure what is happening, but try this:

menu item Tools/Track Changes/Highlight Changes - and uncheck everything

Just tried something here that is very interesting. I can change the highlighted text to any color I want, but when I change that text to highlight none, it goes back to yellow.

Possibly the background color is 'shading' (from Format Borders and Shading), rather than highlighting. This could also be part of a paragraph 'Style'.

That did the trick, it was shading instead of highlighting the whole time. Thanks a lot for your help
