I just setup WinXP Pro on a second system to use as a web/ftp server. I have both services running and the web server is working fine. I can't seem to get to the FTP though. I have the home directory pointing to the correct folder. I have the folder shared. The only users who have access are those in administrators group. I have tried using anon login too with no luck. I think I might have something setup wrong with shares etc. Anyone else have this problem?

P.S. - I had no problem with the FTP when it was running on 2000 Server.

Yes, IIS is installed. I think I have it setup the same way I did on the 2K Server. Yet I cannot access.

If the drive is NTFS, there may be a permissions problem. In Windows Explorer, right-click the directory and check the security and permissions for the folder. You might want to add the Guest and Everyone group to the folder.

i came across the Q304186 article from microsoft which states that this is by design and that the version of IIS in XP is limited capacity with some features available and others not

War-ftp server is the best and *free* server option i've come across. use it on our xp pro pc in the office. admittedly the site is a little "different" but the software is great, easy to use, good support. It can be run as a native service on the xp box. caution: ftp is not secure, disable any anonymous logins immediately. our server gets scanned continously by FXP hackers looking for wingates.
