Are you using a dial-up connection or DSL or ?? for your Internet Connection.

I would recommend checking the TCP/IP settings for your internet connection to ensure that all settings are correct for your ISP. You may need to contact your ISP's Tech Support to obtain all the correct settings necessary to maintain a shared Internet connection.

On the PC that's not connected to the ISP (but wanting to share the connection the other PC has), try putting in your ISP's DNS addresses into the IP stack. This worked for me.

hi thanks for reply
my isp will not entertain queries on networks for some reason and ive tried the dns thing but nothing works.
maybe ill just quit

This is definately something wrong with the DNS. Check to make sure you have either specified an ip address or it is server assigned in dial up networking and network. If you have networking server assigned and DUN specified you will get this error. When you connect try typing an ip address in a browser and/or changing the mail gateways from mail.xxx.xxx to the mail servers ip address. If this fetches mail you know that there is a DNS problem somewhere.

DONT GIVE UP! And give your ISP the heave ho and find a better one!!

Don't blame the ISP! Most ISP's will not support network connections because: 1) Your connection service agreement most likely specifies that you agree to have only 1 dialup computer connected to the internet (not multiple PC's via a network). They usually get more money for this. And 2), they probably don't know the answer.
