The cd is in there and won't come out, spinning and does not seem to be taking up any of the cpu's resoures? Wondering whats the safest way to get this out without breaking cd or the cd/dvd drive itself? Appreciate any help with this problem! Thanks
Power down laptop, look for small hole on front of drive, use a paperclip inserted in the hole to release the drive,it's just a catch so power does not have to be there.
have seen some laptop drives have a broken cable for the eject latch.
There is one other thing to try when a cd won't come out by physically pushing the eject button. Maybe you tried this but it wasn't mentioned.
open up My Computer right click on the CD icon and click on 'eject' from the menu that popped up when you right clicked.
This works about 90% of the time that I've had a stuck cd and it's safer than poking around with the paper clip. The paper clip can miss the catch, go too far and with enough force can permanently damage the drive.
But there are definitely many cases when the paper clip is the only answer.
