We are using a Norstar Compact ICS 4.1. Caller ID is available on all lines. When using a phone set, and another call comes into that extension, the LCD reads the incoming line, not the caller's ID. I am told that the LCD can show who the caller is when the phone is in use on another line. How do I get this to work? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

CLID Info
On an MICS only one phone per line will show the caller ID information automatically. The other phones will need to press feature 811 to see the info. On a CICS you can set it for all phones. Nortel is going to fix this disparity in the new MICS 6.0 software due out soon.

On the MICS, caller ID is programmed in LINES>Trunk/Line data> type is loop, and CLID set: xxx where xxx is the set you want the caller ID to come up on for inbound calls. You can make the caller ID show up on more than one phone by using a hunt group - and assign all the phones you want the caller ID to show up on (or you can use feature 811 while the call rings).

Good Luck!!

Thanks for your follow up, we are using AA, so the CLID is not showing up anywhere first. I was told by Nortel that we should be able to get the CLID to show on all lines even when one is in use. Remember we are using CICS/

Changing what information is shown first about a call
Depending on the services you subscribe to, Call Display
information may contain up to three parts: the name of the
caller, the number of the caller, or the name of the line in your Norstar system that the call is on. For each telephone, you can determine which information is displayed first.Compact ICS 4.0 System Coordinator Guide
1. Press featue **266344
2. Press 23646(the default System Coordinator
password).
3. Press SHOW and enter the internal number of the
telephone you want to program.
4. Press SHOW.
5. Press NEXT, four times.
6. Press SHOW.
7. Choose a setting at 1stDisplay: using the CHANGE button.
The choices are Name, Numbr or Line.

Do not forget that you can setup call log for your DN.

Good Luck!!

Is there some way we can set these changes at the system level? We've already done this at the user level but that did not fix our problem.

If the AA is picking up the call first, do you have it answering in 2 rings? The caller ID information is sent between the first and second rings, if the AA picks up before then the information is not there to be relayed to the extension.

The lines that have caller ID have to be assigned to the phone to show the information automatically. It is normally assigned under Telco Features - Feature assign - Show line -Caller ID set: Y. BUT you cannot assign lines to the voicemail port therefore you have to make sure that the AA isn't getting the line before two rings. MRoberts

I wanted to update the forum on this issue...... We have set this senario up in our lab and tested it with various type lines (PRI and analog) and the result is the same.....

You will NOT get automatic caller ID information on the second call to a phone. If the phone is in use the next call that comes in will NOT show the caller ID information without pressing F811 and the ringing line appearance.

It seems to be a design flaw of the system. MRoberts

Info to you all, if you really need to see the second call info immediately, a CTA100 will give you an immediate screen pop of the second call. JerryReeve

I am not sure what the problem is with everyones phone system. However I have tried this with 4 CICS systems and all seem to work Fine. 2 are CICS with Ver 1 software and one is with Ver 4.1 and the last one is 4.2. All showed the name until someone picked up the line. Also my systems show the Name on the First Ring. I have a Analog port at my desk and I have Caller Id BOX from GTE called Call Manager 200 that picks up the info on the second.
