I have syspreped a server running Windows 2003 web edition with version 9.1 of Backup Exec. Upon reboot the backup software service fails with:-

The Backup Exec Device & Media Service service terminated with the following error:
The database specified does not exist.

It wont allow me to restart the services, has anyone got any ideas.....????

Hello,
We have exactly same problem.
Can you please respond if you solve yours?
Thank you

The only way I could find to fix this was after syspreping I reinstalled vertias and used the repair option from its installer. Bit of a pain but it works.

hey guyz, i scheduled a veritas backup exec upgrade from ver 7.0 to 9.1 for friday, i want to know if upgrade from ver 7.0 is possible, i read in the admin guide that u can only upgrade from 8.x upwards to 9.1, but the licence ordered was for upgrade from 7.x to 9.1.
has anybody done this upgrade before????

Yep you need to upgrade from 7.0 to 8.6 to 9.1 - no way around it.

Download 8.6 from the veritas website.

Or if it isn't too much hassle, uninstall 7, reboot, then install 9.1 fresh.
