My third machine is running Win2000, XP, and ME. I only want Win2000 on the machine but i just added the other OS to see if it would help me get onto the internet (through a cable modem and router). My other two machines, 1 running Win200 and the other XP work fine. My third machine can see all the other computers on the network and browse the shared files etc... but it just can't get onto the internet... TCP/IP is installed, the workgroup is all correct... i need some help!

thanks all

What are you using for the connetion? A cable router? Internet sharing? A plain ol' hub?

Cable modem into a Linksys cable/DSL router.

Are you using DHCP? If so, is the Linksys issuing a Gateway address to the 3rd machine?

bradleyrowe, i have no clue. But i set my 3rd machine up just like the other two and the other two work fine.

do i need DHCP? and if so how do i check if i have it.. and if i don't how do i install/initialize it?

thanks

By default, the Linksys uses 192.168.1.1
Open your browser and type in The username is blank, and the password is admin (by default).
Check the DHCP client table. See if DHCP is enabled. You don't NEED DHCP per say, but it makes IP configuration easier.

On the workstation, open a command prompt and type "IPCONFIG /ALL"

See what your IP address is, and Gateway address.

I'll await your response! ---------------------

bradleyrowe-- its works!!

what i had to do was go into the 192.168.1.1 setup and change the DHCP settings from 2 computers on the network to 3 computers.... such a small detail and it caused all this havoc. Thanks brad!!~~

Wow! I was having the same problem with the added third computer not getting internet access.

Cool, thanks guys
