Can't generate a Terminal Service license for client because of error 'Can't add certificate to store, error c0010020.

When I connect to the terminal service licensing server, and it tries to activate the server and fails. "The Licensing wizard encountered an internal error from the licensing server."
I am new to terminal services, so any information is appreciated.

Your TS licensing service is corrupted. Here is what you need to do:

Stop the TS licensing service
Rename the c:\winnt\system32\LServer directory to LServerBackup
Uninstall TS licensing from the server, reboot, then reinstall TS licensing. Reboot a second time.

You should then be able to activate the server and install licenses.

I will give it a shot and let you know thanks!

Unfortunately:
Rename the c:\winnt\system32\LServer directory to LServerBackup

Doesn't exist.

So does this mean what I thought was my Terminal LIcensing Server actually isnt?

Never mind that last post it was located on seperate drive

Once I was able to re-activate my licensing server, the 2003 server that I want to Term Serv to ( Which also acts as a Terminal Server) cannot receive a licence from the 2000 server terminal server licensing server. I even used the registery hack provided by Microsoft that allows a 2003 server to receive a license from a 2000 server. Make Sense?

2003 server is able to connect to the 2000 L.Server but will not recieve the Client License. Any Ideas?

I tried for over a week trying to do this exact thing. Talked on the phone with 3 different folks from MS, one telling me it was doable the other 2 saying the registry change doesn't work.

Never worked. I finally gave it up.

There is no such registry hack. I don't know what they told you, or maybe there was a misunderstanding. But a Windows 2000 terminal server license server cannot issue licenses to 2003 terminal servers.

That was my conclusion as well. I can't remember the key but I was basically turning something off 1 to 0.

The bad part was one person at MS (the first I spoke with) telling me this was possible with such reg hack.

That registry key you linked is a valid key. But it has nothing to do with 2000 terminal servers getting licenses from 2003 terminal server license servers.

That key allows a 2003 terminal server to find a specific 2000 or 2003 terminal server licensing server. There is a also a similar key that allows a 2000 terminal server to find a 2000 terminal server license server.

Yes that is what I am attempting to do.....

2003 Terminal Server to receive a licence from a 2000 T.S. License Server.

So I made the registry Edit to do so, on the 2003 T.S. but, the 2003 T.S. will not obtain a License.

No, sorry that was a typo on my part.

I meant to say that the key allows a 2003 terminal server to find a specific 2003 (ONLY) terminal server licensing server.

There is another key that allows a 2000 terminal server to find a specific 2000 OR 2003 terminal server licensing server.

To be clear...a 2000 terminal server can communicate with a 2000 or 2003 terminal server license server. A 2003 terminal server can ONLY communicate with a 2003 terminal server LS.
