Can't find system.mdw

I have done a lot of searches here but couldn't find my answer. I appolgise if it's been asked before.

Does XP operating system include the system.mdw file?
if so where should it be located. I tried searching after I installed Access 2000 but could not still find it.

Here's my problem, I have joined a workgroup on my server that I now need to 'unjoin' but I believe the process to do that is to join a system.mdw file on the local drive. If I can't find the system.mdw file on c: how do I fix the problem.
