I am new to sub forms. I created one successfully, and I manually entered the Link Child" and "Link Master" fields, but now the "Link Child" and "Link Master" fields on the sub form's properties are not available. When I created a new subform by dragging a form onto another form, I can't see the "Link Child" and "Link Master" fields for that subform either.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, in advance,

Konacq

1) Have you linked the tables in the Relationships page?

2) "When I created a new subform by dragging a form onto another form", did you use the subforms icon on tools?

Zor:

Thanks for the very prompt and helpful reply.

Yes, I do have the relationships defined as one-to-many in the relationship building tool (one is the master, many is the subform). When I use the subforms icon on the tools menu as you suggested, I was able to create a subform, and it appears to work properly - thanks.

However, even after creating the subform using the subform icon, I am still unable to view or edit the "Link Child" and "Link Master" fields in the properties of the subform. For some reason, Access keeps these properties hidden from me.

I believe I am following the correct steps: I select the subform, and then select the properties for the subform, and then view "All" or "Data" properties. Nowhere do the fields "Link Child" and "Link Master" appear.

The only thing I might be doing wrong is the primary field in the master table is not a key field, but it is indexed as a unique field - and the relationship builder tool does show a proper one-to-many relationship. Would the fact that the primary field in the master table is not a key field make any difference in showing the "Link Child" and "Link Master" properties in the subform?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

If I read you correctly, your not looking in the right place. The links are not part of the subform properties, [blue]there part of the subform control on the main form.[/blue]

Open the main form in design view. Open properties for the form. Click on the subform control. [blue]The links should be in the Data tab![/blue]

I usually construct Form 1, and then Form 2 which will be my subform. Then I open Form1 in design view. Then select the subform icon, dragging onto my mainform. Then follow through telling it you want the form 2 that you previously constructed, it will then ask for links etc. Later when you open Form 1, you can click on Form 2 which looks like a blank white panel. When its selected right click mouse and select properties. You can then see what Links are established.

Zor, AceMan1:

That's got it.

You were both right. I now realize that, when I was viewing the properties, I was viewing the properties of the second form as a [blue]form[/blue] - not as a [blue]subform[/blue]. With your assistance, I have discovered how to view the subform properties.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction - you were very helpful.

In a way, it's like selecting the sub form's border (or frame) instead of the contents of it.
Then you'll find the link fields in the properties.
