I cannot find any shared printer of the domain when browsing
from any of the domain winXP PC's.

The printers are installed in the 2003 server and work fine
the "list in the active directory" option is marked.

But when browsing from any PC to search for all
of the domain printers the list remains empty, don't know why.

Need some help.thanks.

Wht are you using to "browse"? Network Neighborhood?

What happens if you type the unc path to the printer in the run command?

Magnum the printers can be added by typing \\server\printer
and they work ok.

But when using the "Add printer wizard" and select
"browse for a printer" and click search, nothing
appears on the printer list.

I want the users to add the printers themselves and not bother me with that simple thing.

Thanks.

Here is a user friendly way, If you have your print queues set to "List in the directory" on the sharing tab.

Have the user open an MS application (IE, Word, Excel). Instruct them to go to File -> Print -> Click Find Printer... button -> Find Now button. This will present them with a list of all your printers. They only need to double click on the one they want to use to install. This is also helpful in enviroments that have GPO which have the Run disabled.

I know what you are saying... you should see the looks I get from users when I tell them to use the UNC and Wack Wack...

Have you verified when you open the find printers seach, that in the drop down at the top you have selected Entire Directory? You may not be searching in the correct area.

Thanks for replying.

"Whokilledkenny" the problem is precisely when you go File -> Print -> Click Find Printer... button -> Find Now button.
The list is EMPTY.

And yes "w33mhz" in the dropdown menu at the top I select entire directory but the list is still empty.

Check the Print Queues on the server. Verify the "List in Directory" option is enabled on each print queue. This should clear up the issue of the list being empty...

Restarting the server solved the problem, now
all the printers appear on the list.

Not the best solution but it worked.

thanks everybody for the support.
