Hi,I have a computer that crashed recently and i had to do a system recovery (everything back to default or almost)on it. Naturally i had to reload all the programs/softwares on it such as all of office XP. Lost all of my contacts in outlook but however, if i type in the first couple of letters of an adress in the TO: line it auto-complete it and i'm able to send the e-mail. My question is if it auto complete the adresses it must be somewhere inside the system but i can't see where it would be. I went to outlook data file management, archives but it doesn't work. If someone has an answer or point me in the right direction that would be great.
Thanks

You are seeing the nickname cache. Search your hard drive for *.nk2. Be sure to include hidden/system files in your search paramaters.

If you intend to put this information back into your contacts folder, it's unlikely that you'll be able to so. But, if your 'before crash' nickname cache is still on your drive, it's likely that your old .pst file is also. Seach for *.pst (including hidden/system files). If found, take note of the path to the file and use Outlook's import function to import the old .pst file.

Thanks for your great help, followed your instructions and got all my contacts back exactly where your said they where.

Thanks

That's great - it's certainly better than trying to add them all again.
