I was trying to download some photos and got this error message:

"This feature requires a Windows SharePoint ervices-compatible control, such as Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Either the control is not installed or your browser is not configured to support ActiveX controls."

Does anyone have any ideas? I am using the latest version of IE on Windows XP.

Are you upgraded to SP2? Either way, run SFC /scannow - and have your CD handy.

One more thing, did it ever work correctly? Download and run "IEFix".

What file type or filename are you trying to download and from what url? Is it a single photo or some type of screensaver or album of photos?

It could be a security concern if an alleged .jpg or .bmp was trying to run some sort of ActiveX control.

Do you have any Office programs installed?

How to Stop an ActiveX Control from Running in Internet Explorer

You receive an "'Edit Document' requires a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible application" error message when you try to edit an Office document in a document library

I agree with linney, i would be suspicious of those files as well.

Pictures that have activeX controls? Is this site that you're getting them from trusted?

Is is one site with photos? have you tried it in other places?

If it's not a private/members site, post the link to the photos.

I don't have any Office programs installed. I have never been to this site. I am trying to run sfc /scannow, if only the system will cooperate. It has already told me that I have the "wrong CD."

Sometimes the web programmer tries to stop people from grabbing a picture off of the screen... try right click and then save. As for the wrong CD issue it is because you probably have SP1 or SP2 installed and you are trying the system file checker from a 'Gold' CD. If you have a burner (dirt cheap these days) you could try slipstreaming the service packs into a new XP CD of your own.

what do you mean, you've never been to "this" site..

you're trying to download pictures from a website.. what's the link to it

service pak shouldn't matter when he does SFC, as long as the CD inserted is the same version as the cd he used to install, it'll work.

XP Home--SFC prompting for XP Pro SP2 CD?
Thread779-733121

i'd suspect his problems were due to having a copy vs having the original cd.. in that thread.
