Hi, Quite often I run into this situation: I have 100's of psd files organized in folders, and quite often, if I try and move or delete them, I get an error that says:

"Cannot delete xxxxx.psd, It is being used by another program. Close any programs that might me using the file and try again"

Photoshop is closed when I do this, and I have full rights.
I check file properties, and they are not marked read-only.

photoshop CS
windows xp pro

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

This is a Windows problem - not Adobe. I've had the same problem and solved it only by rebooting several times. Also, I got to the bottom of the list of files to be deleted and start deleting one by one until I hit a file that gives the error message. On reboot, I start again at the bottom and continue this process until all are deleted.

Having said that, you're going to have the exact same problem when you try to empty your recycle bin of these files. I haven't asked this question at the XP forum so I can't tell you why this happens or if there's a fix. Maybe I'll go there now...

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Thank you,

I came to the same conclusion after rebooting. i guess for one reason or another, windows of all flavors needs to be rebooted!

I'll check the xp forum as well.

I sometimes get this if, for example windows is trying to generate a thumbnail(especially large media files, avi's,mpegs, etc) in the common tasks/details pane.
I turned off details, which seemed to solve the problem.

Moe: It could have been a real ugly situation, but luckily I managed to shoot him in the spine.
