Stumped.. I think folder was created by a user with Vista, but didn't think that'd matter.. employee deleted the files in the folder but can't delete folder.. it gives access denied saying make sure file is not in use and drive is not full or write-protected.. fine on both..it also doesnt have the security and sharing options when i try to check them from the server itself as Administrator.. any ideas? stumped...

Thanks

Have that user reboot their computer, maybe there is something still connected to the folder.

I have seen where a deleted folder still appears but after some time will eventually disappear.

No dice.. folder(or something masquerading as it,shows folder icon, but since the security and sharing links are missing, I am not sure)s still exists on the server, I have checked for any open links to the folder from the server as well..

Can you take ownership on this folder or maybe try starting with the folder 1 level up.

can't take ownership of the folder as those options dont exist on it.. i can for the folder 1 level up. not sure if it will help as apparently Windows doesn't see it as a full folder.

Is this folder part of a very long path (ie > 255 chars) If this is the case (and I have seen this at least 1000 times before), you will have hard time changing security on it. Try using a SUBSTituted drive as follows;

SUBST X: drive:\folder1\subfolder1\..... until you can get to it as close as possible without going over the 255 char limit
Then from the X: drive try deleting the folder.

no long path...I'm thinking more and more that it had something to do with the computer the drive was created on using vista... Don't have vista on any other computer here, it was an employee's personal computer, tried taking ownership from the root directory on the server and it came up with access is denied on the folder in question...

the folder name is like this z:\Maindirectory\Employee's Pictures

Employee's pictures is the 1 with the problems(directory names were modified, but format is same with the comma and space..)
seems like administrator should have ownership/admin rights on all folders/files on the server but i've ran into similar problems before(not the being prevented from deleting folder 1 though)
i will try substing and see if that helps anyway...

ok got to a point where i had time to reboot the server over the weekend.. folder dissapeared when server rebooted so all is well now..just weird
