Windows 98 clients on Novell 3.2 network. One or 2 files with a .url extension have foreign characters u(umlaut) etc in filenames. I can't delete these using Windows Explorer, DOS or Netware's FILER utility. I've tried wildcards. I've recreated the characters using Alt+0xxx. I've tried DELTREE and even Norton utilities. Any ideas anybody ?
TIA

thanks but I tried that.
File System error 1026 . I managed to move the files using FILER but still can't delete them.

Can you move them to a disk that is not on a novell server? Because moving is just copying+deleting. If that works, windows should be able to delete them. If not, I am pretty much out of suggestions.
Also, with renaming, if you have a weird name, but with readable characters wildcards help. So if you have a123 and c937 then typing something like ren ?*.* ?. may help.
I remember for me del *.url should work, but offcourse I can be very wrong. Wouter Dijkslag

thanks again but no joy.
I'm out of ideas too.

It might be a crazy idea but have you tried deleting the file directly from the operating system command, I mean go to your servers hard disk, and manually delete the file using the del command.

Please excuse me if i´m wrong, but its just an idea.

Let me know if it works.

Regards

Gustavo

Thanks Gustavo but I've tried that, even recreating the foreign characters using the Alt+<numbers> key combinations. I recently tried Norton's Wipe utility and that didn't work either.

Thanks to all who came up with suggestions. I finally got rid of the files by removing the system attribute on the directory the used netware 3.1's FILER.EXE to delete the entire structure.
