Cant delete e-mails in Outlook 200

Hi, hopefully someone out there can help me. My managing director is somehow unable to delete e-mails from his deleted items folder, if they were sent/received before a certain date. When I attempt to delete them I get the message:

"the messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook"

He is using XP Pro (SP1), with Outlook 2000.

Have you tried connecting to his mailbox from a different PC and deleting them? Just as a test?

Checked the permissions on the "deleted items" folder properties?

No permissions set on the "deleted items" folder..

Havent tried it from a different pc yet, but will give it a go. Thanks for your response.

Loaded the profile on to another xp pro desktop, same errors..I think the only way around this is to create an empty pst file and copy everything over within outlook...great !

So, did that work? We have a vp with the same problem.
