This is really weird. In my morpheus file under "my shared folder" there was something in there that kept freezing when i went into my shared folder in explore. I found the file that was doing it and finally managed to delete it but when i try to empty it from the recycle bin it won't let me. it keeps freezing. I also tried "disk cleanup" but it freezes to. Does that make sense? Can anyone help me?????

Try this.

Shutdown your computer.

Restart in DOS mode.

The Recycled folder itself can become damaged. Files are moved to the folder and the Recycle Bin on the desktop appears full, but you cannot view the contents and the Empty The Recycle Bin command is unavailable. Deleting this folder and restarting Windows will re-create this folder and restore functionality:

From the C:\>prompt

Type attrib -s -h recycled .

Type del recycled .

Restart the computer.

You should have fresh Recycle Bin smitee

Hi
I know I'm a moron but if I restart in dos how do I resart the computer ( I've Never done it before) And when I resart it will windows launch?
Thanks

To smitee:

You indicated to delete the Folder and yet the command prompt code indicates to delete the files inside. I'm curious if you ment to use DEL or DELTREE?

To davejohno:

After you type in the delete command and if you have no errors on the screen, then you simply shutoff your computer and then turn it back on (I usually count 10 seconds before turning on again). And windows should launch without problems. --Just as a note-- Some computers will shutdown only after the power button is held down for approx. 5 to 10 seconds. --MiggyD

Instructions posted "VERBATIM" from MKB text...perhaps you could post your question on their "Remarks" dialog box at bottom of article. I hardly ever edit their posted replies.

Article in case you would like to check is:

How the Recycle Bin Stores Files (Q136517)

After you have finished deleting file, make sure you take floppy out of drive before you restart if you use that method.

Can't you just type "win" at the command prompt to return to windows? "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [morning]

Well, how about that. Bad info on the MKB.

davejohno,

open File Manager by going to Start>Run, tying winfile. On the menu, choose View>By File Type..., and make sure Show Hidden/System Files is checked

Navigate to c:\recycled and delete every file except for the hidden desktop.ini file. shutdown and restart.

If you have no desktop.ini file in that directory, you can create a new one:
Open notepad and paste this into it:
[.ShellClassInfo]
CLSID={645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

Save the file as desktop.ini on your desktop.
You need to change the drop-down arrow to show All Files (*.*) to have it save correctly.

No go to Start>Programs>MS-DOS prompt, type cd desktop, then type attrib desktop.ini +h, then type exit.
Go to Start>Run, type winfile. In File Manager, go to View>By File Type, make sure Show Hidden/Sytem files is checked. Now navigate to c:\windows\desktop in File Manager, highlight desktop.ini, click File>Move and type c:\recycled.

del recycled

worked for me to empty the recycle bin in dos mode.
To return to windows from dos - re-start computer.
and
typing win from dos doesn't work ("ON MY[/] COMPUTER") to re-start windows. "Nothing is impossible!"
