cant create user accounts with password to access my ftp server. 1

I can only access my ftp server anonymously. I would like to create users to access my server throught user accounts and passwords but could not do it through IIS(as a matter of fact i could not it through serv_U either). It looks like i am missing something and cant figure ou what it is.


ftp://mike@67.68.255.65 example how i would liike to access my server

Any help is greatly appreciated..

you can't connect to IIS using the username in the url anymore an recent update removed it from IE.

Is there another way to conenct using user name and a password?

yep set authentication on and the ftp logon box will appear on connection.

in the IIS MMC FTP Site properties -> Security Accounts tab -> Uncheck allow anonymous

the user will get a password prompt.

In this way i can log-in only as an administrator, I dont know how to cteate a user account likr "mike", and even if i try to create it doesnt work. I have played for a while with IIS and i tried pretty much every combination and still cant do it.

for user accounts you create them in users and groups. unless your system is part of an Active Directory network.

to give the user logon to IIS with FTP access create a virtual folder with the same name as the username.

works.. but one question.. why when i create a new user, it creates a new account for the whole OS... so when i log out i see all users and i can log-in in each individual one.. that takes a lot of memory on my hard disk..all i want is to give those users permission to access my computer from out side not from my computer.

when a user logins from outside it won't create a profile. User profiles are only for the Windows GUI. Essentially there is no connection between Windows console logons and FTP/Web logons apart from the username/password.

You can create usernames that have no access other than via the web
