I'm trying to connect to my home PC from work. Both are behind routers.
My home PC uses XP. I set up the connection and opened the ports on my router.
I've installed the client on my 2000 machine at work.
When I try to connect, it says it's trying to connect but never does.
I'm not sure what I did wrong.
All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
x

When I try to connect from work I get error 638: The request has timed out.
When my friend tries to connect from his home pc he gets error 721: The remote computer did not respond.

Thanks for the help.

Some further info. I have SP2. It appears the software firewall has the ability to open ports. I'm going to try that. Do you know if 1723 is udp or TCP?
I haven't found protocol 47 but I'm still tinkering.

Error 721: Remote PPP peer or computer is not responding. If you have tried many thing other people suggest like rebooting, reloading hardware and re-installing the VPN or dial in connection, you still get the same problem. I will suggest to check the router settings and make sure TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE) are opened. Also make sure that the router has the PPTP enabled and not firewall block the traffic. On the RAS server, check the DHCP settings.
