Can't connect to Servers unless I type in the IP. Hostname won't work.

We have Checkpoint Firewall 4.1 We have recently installed it and set up all of our rules. We can only access our website and mail server by typing in the following.

http://ip

address of ms exchange/ or

http://ip

of webserver/. We cannot access the mail server by typing

http://mail.ourdomain.com/

or the webserver by typing

http://www.ourdomain.com/.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a DNS problem!! Check your logs.

1. first, make sure your pc is setup with the correct DNS server information.
2. if correct, doublecheck by doing whois "yourdomainame.com" and note for the NS records.
3. do an nslookup or dig ( these are unix utils)then querry for MX and WWW, make sure the fqdn are pointing to the right ips.

when doing the lookup
check your logs and see if the firewall is blocking the dns lookup
(this will happen if your firewall is set to eitherbound and no rule is set to allow dns)
