I can't connect to a mailbox after the user account was disabled, then enabled again. Only way I found was to re-start Info Store, which is the fix. Any one know of a fix etc. This is a Exchange 2000 server with SP3
When you disable that user's account, usually it deletes their entire mail store (unfortunate but true). Maybe you can change that somewhere in Exchange, I dunno. If you have their stuff backed up, usually you can restore it that way, but if not, it's prolly gone for good.

no I can't recover that
you didn't save it
That's not true. When you disable a users account, it does not delete the mailbox. You can mark a mailbox for deletion from ADUC, but you can only delete it from the SM.

It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.
My experience has been that the mailbox stays, but the mailbox's contents get wiped.
This may or may not be the default setting for Exchange, but it is the case on our Exchange server, and because usually when I disable an account there's no need to save all of that stuff (I've usually already backed it up somewhere or weeded through it), I've never really needed to think much about it.

When I disbale and re-enable the user account. Then log on using that account to a workstation I can log on, but can't connect to exchange through outlook. If I restart the exchange service etc.. or reboot, then i can connect to exchange through outlook... odd!
This did work. Renable the account, then wait 10 minutes or force a directory replication. Restart your Information Store, the mailbox is now reconnected. Restarting the IS is the part I always forget.
lander215 is correct. Those of you who are not aware of how to recover mailboxes in Exchange should really brush up on the basic skills of Exchange administration. In a high production environment, stopping the information store or any mail services for that matter are not an option.

"This also means that if you mistakenly delete a MAIL-ENALBLED USER ACCOUNT, you can recreate that user object, and then reconnect that mailbox during the mailbox retention period."
Going back to the first post, I have also observed this phenomena. I typically verify that the SELF object has the 'Associated External Mailbox' permission set. The first part of this article describes what to check:
