Hi,

I don't know a lot about network structure, etc., so please be patient. :)

I'm trying to connect to my PC from home at work. My home PC has XP installed on it,
and I am online via DSL. I have an IP address assigned to this connection. I also have
PC Anywhere installed on this machine, and it is waiting for connections.

From work, I try to ping this home IP address and I get replies. However, when I try
to connect to the home PC, I get a Communications Error. "Unable to attach to specified
device. (pcAnywhere No Connection).

What does this mean? Am I doing something wrong? Everything is setup with TCP/IP.

Thanks,
scripter73

Did you remember to disable the firewall in XP? If not, this error is the result.

OR

Are you running Zonealarm firewall? If so, you didn't configure ZA to accept connections on this port.

Hi Serbtastic,

Thanks for responding so fast. ]

I didn't disable the firewall. I'm not sure if it is enabled. But I will check when I get home.

Ughhh! Don't you hate having to wait until you get home to test stuff?

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks,

isn't there a way to allow specific users through the winXP firewall?
