I have a customer with a DSL connection from SBC using PPPoE. Internet connection is fine, can ping out. Can connect (browse) using MSN browser, and using the address bar in Windows Explorer, but not with Internet Explorer. I also tried Opera with no success. Here's what I've done:

Ran SpyBot, Ad-Aware, CWShredder and Hijack This
Ran WinSockFix
Ran SFC /scannow

The main problem is that when she gets a hyperlink in an email, it tries to open using IE, but can't. So as a workaround, I showed her how to paste the hyperlink into MSN or Windows Explorer address bar.

Anyone have any ideas about what could be blocking the use of IE? O/S is XP home.

uninstall, then reinstall IE.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

IE can't be uninstalled in XP unless you know something I don't. It doesn't show up on the Add/Remove Programs list

Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs-->Add/Remove Windows Components

Its in that list. I know it is because I HAVE XP Home and I just checked it ;-)

ComputerCop, thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't really uninstall IE, it just makes it unavailable. I found a way to uninstall it, though:
Cameronem20, it's not just the links, the browser won't open a web page at all. Thanks anyway.
