I have a windows 2000 Advanced Server and XP Professional as a client. When I click on My Network Places and i am able to see my domain. When I double click on the domain I am getting a network was path not found. "mydomain.com is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource....." and my map drive can not reconnect at startup, a red X show on my map drive.
If I stop and start the Computer Browser Service on the server and restart my client several time i am able to browse the network normal. Also, I am able to browse thru UNC. I can ping my server. I can see the network computer thru the server, but not XP.

Please, any advice is greatly appreciated,

I had a similar situation -- 2 machines running W2K Advanced Server, 2 running W2K Pro. I could ping any of the machines, but trying to get to them through My Network or through Computer Manager was impossible. Finally figured out that something was wrong with RRAS. This machine is my hookup to DSL, coming in on a second NIC. I was trying (and still intend to do so) to hook up NAT so my other machines could use DSL. I did not have it running. Disabling RRAS had no effect on the problem. However, when I deleted RRAS from the system, my communications with the other machines worked fine. Have not yet reinstalled RRAS. Check Event Viewer, both in Systems and in Applications, to see what sort of messages you have there.

Try installing WINS, it sounds like you aren't getting any NetBIOS name resolution.

Windows networks using Active Directory domains no longer need WINS. Since you only have two computers one of which is a 2K server, I assume you have AD rather than a NT4 domain. Have you set the DNS for your XP computer to the DNS server on the Win2K machine?

Hi I had a similiar problem but with Aa Windows 2000 server. I can ping all the machines in the network but I cannot browse by Network Places. I do not have RRAS running. What could my problem be.
