I have just installed NT 4 Server on my home LAN, and set up a public share on it. I try to browse the NT machine from my Windows 98 machine (as 'Default User'), and get a password dialog asking for a password to "\\<server>\IPC$"

I am lost...

What did you share the drive as? If you share the drive as C$ then it cannot be seen on the network. Try sharing as C or map the drive.

I have figured it out. I had forgotten about the Guest account on the NT server.

I unchecked the "This account is disabled" box in the User Manager, and everything works fine now.
