Is there a way to turn your computer on via phone line?

What is going on is I set up a remote desktop connection to a house I have up north to view security cameras. A power failure occured thus I could not connect. I bought a battery backup but that only last so long as well....

Any ideas what I could do to avoid having to drive up there and physically turn it on?

Maybe I could train a cat or something to go turn it on lol... Then train him to feed himself and fill his own water and changed the litter lol

I figured there wasnt a way.... but in this day and age ya never know...

Depends what you mean by "on". Switch on the power by phone? Yes.

most nics have a "wake on lan" setting where it will turn on the computer if the lan tells it to turn on

You could try a Google search using
"wake on modem"
or
"wake on ring"
or
"wake on lan"

The first two are alternatives.

You need a motherboard with a compliant BIOS.

However, you are still going to need to visit the house to set it up ready for the next power outage.

That is a broken link....

Wake on Ring or Wake on Modem from what I have been reading is only to bring it out of a suspended mode... ie hibernate or standby....

If you have a BIOS that supports it then WAKE on Modem will start up the computer. Generally this is for Motherboards with integrated Modem. However there are several MB's that support it with either ISA or PCI based modems.

Anyone know of any boards off hand that will support this... modem can be integrated or seperate... doesnt really matter...
