Can't automatically deselect using marquee tool 2

A rather basic question: when I select an area with a marquee tool and then click elswhere, the selected area is not deselected. To deselct it I have to press Ctrl+D. How can I enable this feature?

Other than Ctrl D or Selection > DeSelect I don't know another way

Hmm, I have users on other PC's being able to just click eslwhere to select another area, with the previous one being de-selected. Anyone knows where this option is?

You've probably got Add to Selection chosen in your Marquee Tool options bar at the top left.

Change it to New Selection.
