I have and ACS R1.1 with Voice Mail R4. The Voice mail started giving me trouble with intermittent garbled messages. I replaced it with a R5 mail. The messages are now clear, but now we cannot retrieve all of our messages. When we press 0 to retrieve the mail, the Voice message comes back with you have X number of messages. It will not let us listen to our messages. This is intermittent. Sometimes we can answer all and sometimes we cannot. This is on all extensions.
Could I have a defective Voice Mail Card are is R5 not compatible with ACS R1.1.

Hi Hartnett, I can tell you that as far as compatibility goes VS R.5 will work with any release of partner ACS. The problem your having sounds like a bad VM. Is it new? even new it could be bad "out of box". Sorry not much help.

No, It a Refurb.
Thanks for the quick reply.

P.S.
Would a soft reset of the original card have solved my garbled messages?

I think you mean a hardware reset, (shut down, remove module and reseat) But its hard to tell if this would have cleared the problem. If you still have the old voice mail it might be worth a try. But you might be stuck with the refurbed one depending on their terms.(considering a reset worked)

Always try the soft reset whenever there is a V.M. problem.(9989reset)it performs a hard drive utility.

I have had this issue before. When it gives you the "you have x number of messages" message, press *3 and delete it. Somehow it has recorded that message as a message in the mailbox you are listening to. It isn't actually looping. I have had luck with a soft reset curing garbled messages.

My voicemail lets the caller record a message but when i go to listen to the message it cuts off.

I called myself and left a message coutning to 60. When i listen to that message it ended at 8.

Any way to fix it? It is in a 5 slot carrier on the right side. How do i reset it when i remove it out of he carrier?

Hi aaigner,
The act of powering down the system will reset the voicemail (it reboots). Reseating the card sometimes helps with a poor contact to the backplane.

I tried this and also reset the voicemail system and had to redo my greetings.......... but when i listen to vociemails they arre still cutting the message someone left in the middle.

any ideas?

I would try to get an advanced replacement on the VM if you can.(before it's too late) Hopefully the company you got it from offers this. I had to send a few refurbed VM's back because of the same problem.

This unit is about 7 years old. Should i have it fixed o buy a new one from ebay? So it is definetly the unit went bad not a reset will fix?

Personally, I would try a hard reset before spending the money to replace it. If it was covered by warranty, I would have it replaced, but it doesn't sound like that is the case.

Hi aaigner,
You did a complete system initialization, that's why you had to set it up again. A reset simply reboots the vm.
You can have it repaired and the hard drive replaced, or buy a more recent model like a VS 5 or Messaging R1. Anything older, and I'd start getting worried about the hard drives.

does it have a computer hardrive? or is it a different size? like an ide hard drive?

Hi aaigner,
It is a computer hard drive. However, it doesn't run DOS or Windows. This thing is a special case. I have not been able to "ghost" the drive either. You really need to send it in for proferssional replacement or buy a newer vm unit. My vote is to buy a more recent vm unit and take advantage of some of the newer features.
