For some reason, I can no longer add domain global groups using the Security Rights (Manage Users) wizard. I can still add individual user ID's, but not groups. I enter them in the standard DOMAIN\ID format, but I get the following error message:

"SMS is unable to verify that the name you entered is an existing Windows NT user or user group. This may be because the name indicates a local group, or because no such user or user group exists, or because the specified domain cannot be contacted."

Yes, I am careful with the spelling and I even make sure the case is the same, but no luck. I cannot figure out why it can verify user ID's, but not global group ID's. I added them in the past, albeit probably a year or more ago.

My setup is SMS 2.0 SP3 running on a Windows 2000 SP2 server in a Windows NT 4.0 domain.

Hi Tom,
I received exactly the same message but I did not care....
And when a member of this defined group tries to do something via the SMS AdminConsole it is working.
Have you tried this already ?

Greetings,
Chris

SP4 will fix this. after you apply sp4 you will be able to browse for domain groups as well as users.

for some reason you still get that error message but the group is added and the users have access.
