When I try to access my 2003 server from a Win 98 desktop I get the following message:

"You must supply a password to make this connection"

It shows the resource as "\\<servername>\ipc$" and prompts me for a password but not a userid or name.

How do I get around this? I have no idea what user it's attempting to use or what the password should be.

Thanks for any help!

\\<servername>\$ipc is an Administrative share. It's automatically using the Username that is supplied from the computer trying to access that share all it wants is your password. If no joy create a username and password on the 98 machine that is the same as the one on the 2k3 box.
