This is probably the wrong place.

But I cannot access the concentrator via the console port. Background. I have a 3000 concentrator fronting our VPN. I need to access it to make a change to the tunnelling. Now the standby unit. The one I am allowed to try things on does not give any responce when I attach a serial cable to it. Cant access it via the public/private interfaces as nobody kept a record of those doh!!!. I have tried using the nice flat blue cable supplied by Cisco and the plug in DB9 connectors. 9600,n,8,1. But absolutely no responces.

Q. Am I using the wrong cable ?
Q. If so what should I be using ?
Q. Is this the wrong group. [smile]

You have to use a straight thru cable, not a null modem cable (like the blue ones)

take 2 rj-45 to db9 females and use a straight-thru cat5 cable. that will work

In versions 2.5.1 and later, connect a PC to the concentrator's console port using a straight-through RS-232 serial cable with the PC set for the following:
9600 bits per second
8 data bits
no parity
1 stop bit
hardware flow control on
VT100 emulation

Thanks BuckWeet

Does help if I look at the colour of the wires the correct way around. I must have been colour blind. Used RJ45 and bingo.
