Canon PIXMA MX-700 - refilling cartridges

I've refilled my original cartridges that came with the printer once. Yesterday, the printer started printing strangely: when I'd print color, it would print regularly, then go really, really slowly. When I looked at the printout, only 1/4 of the page had printed. I checked the cartridges and found that the black and magenta were completely empty. (The printer didn't warn me of that because I had already refilled them once, thereby disabling the ink-low warnings.) I refilled the two cartridges but still only 1/4 of the page prints in color and it goes really super slowly after printing a part of the page. Also, it complains that the magenta is completely out of ink. I clicked OK on the printer to override, but it still prints as described above. Also, the LED-light on the magenta cartridge itself is flashing.

Any ideas / fixes? If I buy real, brand name cartridge$, will that fix my issue (for now)?

Thanks,
Eliezer

Not sure if you buy real, brand name cartridge$ will fix your issue but you can try where I buy my generic printer cartridges. I've been using them on 2 different Epson printers as well as many of my clients. Go to:

They offer free shipping & 100% satisfaction guarantee.

If I were to order standard Epson black & color cartridges for my printer, it would cost me $62.38.

By ordering their remanufactured black & color cartridges, my cost drops to $15.21 (that includes the 10% discount you get when you key in /card10. Unfortunately, they've stopped the 15% discount but the price is still better than what you'd get anywhere else.

Hope this helps!

Bob,

Unfortunately, the no longer manufacture generics for my printer:
PrintPal told me there's some kind of pending legislation from Canon over copyright infringement. :-(

As far as the original issue I posted here... My kids had played with the settings and switched the paper size to 5x7" photo paper. [blush]

Thanks,

New MX700. Magenta cartridge ran empty. Immediately filled it.
Now flashing LED on cart and 'empty' message on screen. Will
no longer print.

Yellow cartridge was 3/4 empty. Refilled, still displays low on screen. Afraid will go the way of Magenta.

Very experienced at refill, printhead maintenence of ip300 and
ip400.

Any tips or suggestions?

The problem you have is that you are using the same cartridge which tells the machine that you are low. Simply get two sets of cartridges and alternate them to reset the printers data and fake it out that it is a new cartridge. They want to sell you a new one, so just tell it that "this one is new" by alternating 2 sets.

One advantage of Canon inkjets (apart from their excellent photo printing qualities) is that their replacement cartridges are cheaper than any of theother manufacturers.

I've seen several tests of third party cartridges (including from the independent WHICH? magazine) and in every instance, Canon cartridges were superior - in some cases by a huge margin. Search the Internet and you'll find some good discounts.

Depending on your model, you may find that Canon bundle 50 x photo glossy (6x4) with a set of cartridges.

IMNSHO, refilling Canon cartiridges is a waste of time, effort and is messy!
